You Are a Mirror

You are a mirror

A reflection of myself
It’s getting clearer
We’re like nobody else

The crowd chewed us up and spit us out.
We were facedown on the same trash heap
Our hearts rose up together and found
A strength that doesn’t know defeat

You are a mirror
A reflection of myself
The same demeanor
We share the greatest wealth

We’re cell mates in this crazy world.
Four eyes peeking through the bars
It must be fate that dropped us in this place
I guess that’s why we’re always staring at the stars!

You are a mirror
A reflection of myself
Life is a theater
We’re attending it with stealth

And we always enjoy the show

Continuity

Everyone has their own passions, ambitions and their own ideals. Some are oriented toward art and others toward sports; some are vegetarians and others enjoy hunting; some are liberal and others frugal; there is nothing wrong with either side but they simply enjoy and want others to enjoy what they do. It is in our nature to want others to emulate us and to emulate those we admire. The trouble is that as each personality is different so will their heroes be different.
We all have a desire for Utopia, but the definition depends on personal preferences. We run into the practical side that sees that personal interests also need to be addressed. Regardless of the political persuasion of a person, there are passions that influence their decisions. We have numerous passions and objectives in our own minds and if the passions didn’t have the governing part called reason we would be confused animals. It is the same for a group of people. Everyone will have different passions and objectives and they have to settle on certain common rules that pertain to everyone. This principle has Little to do with a majorities, but applies to everyone equally. What are the things everyone would want to be protected? The difference between suggestions and laws is that laws have enforcement for hire to make sure they are obeyed. There is always a negative part when it comes to government regardless of what is presented. An idea in the private or free area of our lives in a free society, cannot be forced on others. We cannot be forced to give to a certain charity or buy a certain product. If we refuse, no one is going to come and force us with the threat of jail or fines.
So when it comes to forming a government and making laws, the more areas that are covered by law, the more divisive government becomes. Each area that is put under the authority and force of a government becomes an area of interest for special groups with the associated passion. Rather than leaving areas of personal interest alone so personal drive can be applied, special interest groups are formed instead. The officials of the government, regardless how they arrive in office, have to pander to these groups. There are areas that should be addressed commonly and others left to the individual. The struggle is between individuality and commonality. If something is left for the individual, it doesn’t mean it becomes absent in a society. It is just absent from lawmaking and the special interest news.                                                                                                          What areas are best left out of the enforcement realm and what areas do we cede over to it? As far as passions go, they are diverse and we should respect others views. Our views become contentious when they become a part of the universal application of government. For example, laws that favor sports will be contentious to those who are interested in art so it is better to leave the interests of both out of our universal laws. The ultimate goal is to have the common areas we have ceded addressed effectively. To be against adding areas that might be the passion of others isn’t being contentious but it is showing the character trait of good stewardship. Good stewardship can be lonely since it isn’t nearly exciting as a cause, but it is necessary to allow anything good to continue.

The Well

I threw a penny in a well to see how deep it’d go

It tipped and flipped, tossed and turned into the depths below.
My words are like that penny, drifting through my mind
They each contain a wish, in the depths become confined.
There they lie together, with no apparent use
Accumulate in mass, till expression lets them loose

Fruit to Enjoy

A poem without obsession

Will be lackluster

Give it strong passion
But also emptiness.
Hear a heart beat contained in words
Watch a chest rise within an expressed thought
Feel a touch through the rhythm of vowels
Experience the person who writes
Let a soft breeze touch your cheek
Thundering waves sooth your mind
A peaceful walk inspire you
Feelings poured into words
Are fruit to enjoy.

What I Am

I love to sit in the grass and admire the scene
While the trees gently sway in a warm summer breeze
Enjoying the clouds and the smell of the air
My heart starts to dream, I can go anywhere

A king only wishes he could have it so good.
I can travel afar from this place in the woods
The things I desire will always work out.
There’s never a question and never a doubt

Should a person depend on passion so much?
Does it keep satisfaction out of my touch?
But poems and songs settle my mind
Feelings of ardor; inspired, sublime

am a passion, with logic a cloak
A part is a dream the rest is a hope
I’m making a way in this world so dire
By using these words and sharing the fire.

At Least

We’ve always been known as stubborn

That’s what I find delightful
But I didn’t think you’d act this way
As a thought inside my head

It’s always the same old pattern
Refusing to leave at times
I try not to love the way
You come back to have a last word

A story for a couple of bookworms
But action makes us all fools
Impressions are hard to remove
At least we can say that we try

A Kind Man

If you’ve fallen in love with a man who is kind

Most people you meet are careless and blind
Don’t think for a minute that care makes him weak
To stop an offense he’s the first one to  speak
When his kind eyes are furrowed you best not engage
But he doesn’t take pleasure in using his rage
He’ll distance himself from malice and strife
Since heartfelt joy is his mission in life
He’ll look after your heart the best way that he knows
If it causes him pain he won’t let it show
He may respond slow since he thinks all things through
But whatever he does will be the best thing for you.
Those who he loves shouldn’t worry or fret
His heart is steadfast and he never forgets.
