What we Think

Sometimes we think love

Is like a dinner plate
You can walk away from
Or a deal you missed
Like passing a yard sale
But it doesn’t follow
Commerce rules
It’s not like a faucet
You can turn off
A switch to flick
To turn on the lights
A pedal to push
To speed up
Or slow down
It does what is right
For its beloved
Is not a user
Love cares deeply
Will not impose itself
Is patient and kind
Will step out of the way
For a person’s happiness
At its own hearts expense
Love also doesn’t change
Will sacrifice for loved ones
Would rather be destitute
Than hurt its beloved
No it isn’t a task
An accomplishment
If it has to be won
Then it’s a card game
But it can’t be love
Maybe I am a purist
To my own detriment
There isn’t a map
But this is all I know
