Only a Name

Mom called out a name with affection

And it gave her heart a sweet feeling
Daddy called out a name for protection
For an image, a heart and a soul
They both knew
How precious a name is

They met each other as children
Hung out as friends for a while
Yelling their names in delight
It made beautiful innocent smiles
They both knew
How precious a name is

Soon the smiles became wry
Changes pulled them both apart
Lord knows how they tried
The memories linger inside their hearts

Life passes by in a moment
Inside we are always the same
Holding images deep in our hearts
Some things are too good for change

Now the people who knew them are  gone
Mommy and daddy too
But the memory still  lingers on
And with their last breath
They will whisper a name

Those innocent smiles come to greet them
And the night isn’t bad after all
It’s a  key that opens a treasure
They hear mommy and daddy call
They still see
How precious a name is

Self Talk

You shouldn’t be selfish, I said to myself

But my self just didn’t understand
It’s easy to do if you reason it out
But my heart disputed the plan
It only takes time and strong discipline
But my heart wants no therapy
Just get busy, you know and things will be fine
But my heart just don’t want to see
Minds can be simple and easy to heal
But a heart will chose to ignore
I can choose any route I like in my mind
But this heart only wants yours

Value

Love takes the right actions when the prices are clear

Limits are kept without hurting what’s  dear
These hide out of sight when blinded by passion
Some to be savored and others need rationed
Nothing can take the real value away
Value increases with each passing day.
Resignation at times and at others emotion.
Longing and hope along with devotion.
It’s good to enjoy what’s on every shore
Without losing hope for what is in store.

The Pool

There is a pool, undisturbed and settled

That entices those who casually pass by.
Once immerse  in its waters they are never the same
Living outside, they feel barren and dry
With every turmoil, the pool comes to mind
And while alone in thought, it’s hard to deny
It’s waters call to us.

No Complaints

When I get anxious I travel away
Escape to a beach on a warm sunny day
Make myself small like a white grain of sand
To be one with the surf with nothing else planned
After a while the crowd hems me in
With everything same, boredom begins
So I pull myself back to a reasonable size
And head to the place they call civilized
I look to the heavens and ask to be raised
I become like a star and my heart is amazed
A few victories helped me hold out my chest
Try to meet every need but never get rest
I reach out my hand to help everyone
My eyes become blind by the rays of the sun
Reach and withdraw, humble yet proud
Sunny one day then the sky turns to clouds
Though life has its stress, I can’t complain
The love in my heart never needs change

Worthwhile

We all want a connection

An in depth exchange
A safe way to reveal our true self
To someone who has good intentions
But we get trampled on
By those we let in
And become guarded
Hoping our true self
Doesn’t suffocate
Then we hold it close
And attempt to give little bits to others
Just to make sure
The true self is breathing
But they don’t always value it
The gift is scorned at times
And set aside
But we keep searching
For that perfect outlet
Where our inner thoughts
Are like gold to someone
Displayed in their memory
Long sought after
They never grow old
Never get outdated
And when confidence wanes
It only takes a glance
And every effort is worthwhile

Understanding

When life seems overwhelming

Guilt and confusion pressing in
Don’t you worry about me
I understand

Justice may pressure your heart
You can’t see right or what’s wrong
Love takes care of it all
I understand

A response can never be wrong
Your heart will always be right
And I know your heart well
I understand

The Sound

There is a sound that can be heard

When the storm drowns thoughts
Dreams lie shattered
And the shards cut deep

This sound cannot be silenced
By the rage of noisome crowds
When we lie battered
Held by defeat

It is wispered on the wind
By the voice of lasting love
Your inner hopes matter
Through the dark it speaks

Wisecracks

It starts with a wisecrack

I said “hey! Someone shares my humor!”
I used to find myself laughing alone quite often.
Thinking I was the only one that thought this way.
Then there’s the nuanced expressions,
The same kind of responses I would have.
A kind of reflection of myself.
The similarities become so uncanny
Half is admiration and the rest is wonder.
And as life is shared, it is easy to talk and make decisions.
Some say you grow into it but sometimes it just “is”.
Nothing life throws is a surprise when we face it together,
It is as if we are our own heckling section
Out there making comments, narratives and humor.
While everyone else is our entertainment.
We are a unique and wonderful pair.
And as we age, it ends with wisecracks too.
That, my friend, is how you experience love.
