The Rain will Fall

I took a journey

through a hard dry land

To sacrifice my wants
While everyone frowned
I exchanged a dream
for futility and pain
My tears were ignored
Instead I was mocked
Success within reach
But I couldn’t drink of it
Else others would dwell
in the desert with me
Wagging tongues
Demanded I bow to their tales
But they will never see it
I may be a mess
My heart a disaster
But this is a familiar place
I know the landscape
of broken dreams
I bear the scars
from previous travels
Today is different
I am battle hardened
And sure footed
I know that rain falls
after every drought.
The ground will soften
flowers will grow
And dreams are renewed.
For those who will live.
